Maureen is co-owner of JMB Family Counseling, LLC with her husband John, also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She began her career in advertising (think Mad Men) with organizational flow charts, corporate presentations, managing expectations, people and a multi-million dollar account list.   In 2005, Maureen decided that it was time to get off the treadmill and reset.  After completing a graduate degree in Marriage

and Family Therapy at Fairfield University she worked at both private and public agencies to gain the necessary knowledge and skills for private practice.

That experience includes working with individuals, couples and families, on identifying and learning to deal with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders and trauma.  Maureen has a special interest in working with couples, employees who are involved with restructuring or career changes, problems with family of origin and PTSD.

Maureen has post-graduate training in Gottman Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy as well as EMDR. Please visit the EMDR page on this website for a description of EMDR therapy.

Maureen's husband John has worked in the mental health field for 25+ years, holding numerous positions including Clinical Director at several non-profit agencies.  His depth of experience has contributed to the training of countless interns and therapists.  His education began at the University of Hartford and he holds a Masters of Science degree from Central Connecticut State University in Counseling Education.  He has post-graduate training and extensive experience in crisis intervention, depression, how to deal with depression, anxiety, how to control anxiety, identify panic attacks and trauma.

Currently he is using his expertise to help and support returning combat veterans and their families at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.  John is also trained in EMDR and other trauma therapies.

The over-riding philosophy of JMB Family Counseling, LLC  is that we, as human beings, are all connected.  We learn from each other and grow with every experience.  It is a privilege to be doing this work with clients who have identified that change is necessary for them to fully engage in their relationships and enrich their lives.
